Fun³ Fest ‘08 - Video: The National»

New York’s The National headlined the Fun Fun Fun Fest on Saturday. Frontman Matt Berninger talked with KUT’s Andy Uhler about the growing importance of music festivals because of declining album sales. The fragile state of the music industry didn’t prevent The National from putting on a moving performance. Definitely a great way to end the first day of the fest. Watch The National here.

If there was such a thing as a “Texas original”, it would have to be Doug Sahm: a son of San Antonio who many still feel embodies the spirit of Austin music. Paul McCartney confirms lost, 14-minute Beatles track

Right around the time The Beatles crafted such pop classics as "Penny Lane," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" in 1967, the band had fully immersed itself in its newfound experimentation with psychedelia and avant-garde pop. The result? A long-rumored 14-minute track entitled "Carnival of Light," which up until recently had been nothing more than a ghost in the minds of Beatles fans.


Okkervil River Bookery

Okkervil River were here a few months over a year now, recording for us. It’s a session that featured a number of choice covers and lasted a number of hours. At the tail end of it, Will Sheff sent the rest of the band back to the Holiday Inn a block away and to the casino as he lingered behind to record a Bookery reading.

Parks aim to extend Lollapalooza-Grant Park deal through 2018

Lollapalooza organizers and the Chicago Park District were readying a deal Thursday that would keep the rock festival in Grant Park at least through 2018 and bring in at least $13 million to pay for citywide park improvements.


Kinks Writing New Material

The Kinks are writing songs for a potential reunion album, frontman Ray Davies told BBC News. `We`ve started a little bit of this and that,` he said. `But it is too early to judge the quality. It depends if there`s good music. We want good new music. I`d like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do.`
